ROGER SHORT MEMORIAL FUND NEWSLETTER 2024
For the fourth year in a row, I was asked to design the RSMF Newsletter. The three column grid system works well in this format as there is a lot of body copy and I always strive to make it feel approachable and legible, not the daunting task of facing a whole page of solid words. With the images spread throughout, I work to create a newsletter that is inviting and a pleasure to read and look at. Maybe even something past RSMF Travelers might keep.

The 2023 newsletter was the first since the students’ travel resumed following the pandemic. The newsletter was expanded from 4 spreads to 6 spreads in order to incorporate all the beautiful photography submitted from the Travelers.

ROGER SHORT MEMORIAL FUND NEWSLETTER 2021
This scholarship fund enables current University College, Oxford University students to travel to Turkey to foster cultural understanding and create lasting connections. The annual newsletter is a compilation of their travel experiences as well as a way to continue the connection of past scholarship recipients. This year was particularly tricky as there had not been any travel to Turkey in the whole of 2020 due to Covid restrictions.
WHAT IS A MEMORY?
Unpublished book project written and illustrated by Gabriella Svenningsen and winner of the Tassy Walden Award - New Voices in Children’s Literature 2020. I typeset the copy and worked with the author to edit the illustrations as needed. Keeping in mind the young audience, I chose a slab serif typeface which is easy to read but does not compete with the charming illustrations.
LUNCH WITH LEONARDO
Invitation and menu for a fictional lunch with Leonardo da Vinci, held at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, New York. Inspired by the typographic treatments of the Italian Renaissance, the invitation breaks the information between the two sides of the vellum, the transparency of which allows a nod to Leonardo's famous backwards handwriting.
